Tutorial Glass Shiny Flag Effect

This tutorial will show you how to create a simple flag with a web 2.0 style. Take the rectangle select tool and create a rectangle then fill it up with a gradient using the gradient tool. To get the best results give it a smooth look.

Now select the center part of the flag, the easiest way I chose was by clicking Select>Modify>Contract. Choose a big number depending on your flag’s width. I entered 100pixels.

Now hit the Mask button to your left on your tool box.

Using your rectangle select tool, delete the red part that’s over and under your selection, and hit Delete.

Now press Q, or click again on the mask button to get rid of the red highlight. Now hit Crtl+Shift+I to invert the selection. Now that the sides are selected, you can change the colors by going to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation, and change the hue.

Create a new layer, then try to select half of the flag with the rectangular select tool, and fill that with white. Edit>Fill.

Now get rid of the excess white by Ctrl clicking the entire flag, then hit Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the selection. After, make sure you’re on the white rectangular layer and hit Delete.

Reduce the opacity of that white rectangle, and you’ll get a nice shine effect like so.

Add a shape to your flag by clicking on the shape tool and then click on the various shape tool, then choose one from the library.

When you add your shape, simply rasterize it by right clicking on the layer and hitting “Rasterize” Then go ahead and Ctrl click on the layer and add a gradient to it, or a solid color.

You will now have to Merge all of your layers selecting all the layers (besides the Background layer) then right click on them and click on “Merge Layers”.

Hold Ctrl and click on the flag layer, then take your select tool and choose Free Transform. Right click again and choose Warp.

This is where you model your flag. All you have to do is click in the little squares and drag. Give it a wavy look. When modeling, do it as a system, push the top part then do the same thing down.

When you finish, you’ll get something like this. Go ahead and add a stroke to the flag by double clicking on the layer and checking the stroke box. Keep the pixel rate low, and choose a color that combines the flag color.
