Create Wind Text Tutorial

In this effect, we will change this boring text into a vibrant glowing art piece! Start off with a fairly thick font. As for your background, choose black to get the best result, remember we’re going to make this glow.

Next, you will right click on your text layer and click “Rasterize Type”

Make sure you’re on the text layer, then click on Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates. Now select “Polar to Rectangular” and hit OK.

Now, before throwing the wind effect you will have to rotate the canvas. So click on Image>Rotate Canvas>90 CW.

You may now add the wind effect by going to Filter>Stylize>Wind. Start off by choosing “From the Right” then hit OK, and then redo the same thing again so that your wind lines will be longer. You may now choose “From the Left”, and do it again. As for the method, keep it on “Wind” feel free to try the others too.

Now rotate back to the previous form. Simply click Image>Rotate Canvas>90 CCW.

You should end up with something like so. When you do, click on Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates. This time choose Rectangular to Polar and hit OK.

Now, hold Ctrl and click on the text layer which should select the text.

With the text selected click on Select>Modify>Contract. And choose any number appropriate to your font and size, I chose 5.

The selection is now proportionally shrunk, you may now hit delete on your keyboard.

All that is left to do is add color, and you may do that by going to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Color Balance. As you can see below I changed to the following settings.

And I end up with this explosive glow…
